Secret Talent Tree

Secret talents are talents that apply to a character’s supernatural abilities. They can be selected whenever a character would gain a talent normally, and all characters can select any secret talents for which they qualify, regardless of their base class.

As I work out the rules text and do a little testing on all of these, I’ll be updating them. Some of these will need to be translated from the original Rise, while others are entirely new and will need to be considered a bit longer.

General Talents
  • Meditative Talent
    • Select a revelation to which you have access. You can choose to use this revelation by expending your focus in lieu of spending a stamina charge. You can select this talent multiple times. Each time you do, you select a new revelation.
  • Innate Potential
    • Select a revelation to which you have access. You gain 3 ranks in this revelation. Your total ranks cannot exceed your level +3. You can select this talent multiple times. Each time you do, you select a new revelation.
  • Higher Potential
    • Select a revelation to which you have access. Treat this revelation as if it were 3 ranks higher for determining effects such as damage and duration. You can select this talent multiple times. Each time you do, you select a new revelation.
  • Soul Mastery
    • Select a revelation to which you have access. Your DCs with this revelation gain a +1 bonus. You can select this talent multiple times. Each time you do, you select a new revelation.
  • Soul Focus
    • Select a revelation to which you have access. You gain a +2 bonus made to all rolls with this revelation. You can select this talent multiple times. Each time you do, you select a new revelation.
  • Soul Specialization
    • Prerequisite: Soul Focus
    • Select a revelation to which you have access. You gain a +2 bonus to output with that revelation. You can select this talent multiple times. Each time you do, you select a new revelation.
  • Awakened Power
    • Select a revelation to which you do not have access. You have access to this revelation from this point on. You can spend skill points to increase your ranks in it, and you can use it untrained.
  • Preserve Energy
    • Whenever you would make a revelation attempt and would fail, either due to a poor roll or to a miss chance, you do not expend a stamina charge. If you would not have any stamina charges remaining, you must still make a Will save against energy loss, even if you would fail in your attempt.
      Kinetic Sniper Talent Tree
  • Kinetic Blast
    • Prerequisite: 3 ranks in Pyrokinesis, Hydrokinesis, Aerokinesis, Electrokinesis, Photokinesis, Phonokinesis, Ectokinesis, Cryokinesis, or Eldritch Power.
    • By spending a stamina charge, you can make a ranged touch attack against a target. You fire a blast of energy or elemental force at the target, dealing damage according to the Kinetic Blast chart to the target. The damage type is determined by the base revelation- Pyrokinesis deals fire damage, Hydrokinesis deals nonlethal damage, Aerokinesis deals nonlethal damage, Electrokinesis deals electricity damage, Photokinesis deals light damage, Phonokinesis deals sonic damage, Ectokinesis deals force damage, Cryokinesis deals cold damage, and Eldritch Power deals magical damage. You always add your Intelligence modifier to the damage dealt. You can attempt to use this talent even if you have no stamina charges remaining, but you must make a Will save against energy loss as per normal. When you select this talent, it applies to all the associated revelations to which you have access and you have at least 3 ranks invested.
  • Kinetic Strafe
    • Prerequisite: Kinetic Blast, 6 ranks in the associated revelation(s)
    • By spending a stamina charge, you can cause a burst of energy to erupt within 10 + 10 ft/ERL from yourself. This burst occurs in a 20 foot space, and deals damage equal to a blast of the appropriate level to all targets and unattended objects within the area. All targets are allowed a Reflex save to take half damage. Each base revelation has a special property they apply to this effect as well. Pyrokinesis deals 1 extra damage per die, Cryokinesis and Hydrokinesis deal 1 extra nonlethal damage per die, Aerokinesis forces the target(s) to make a Fortitude save or be knocked prone, Electrokinesis forces the target(s) to make a Fortitude save or be stunned for 1 round, Photokinesis forces the target to make a Will save or be dazed for 1 round, Phonokinesis deals 1 less damage per die but ignores hardness, Ectokinesis deals 1 less damage per die to mortals but +2 per die to ghosts, and Eldritch Power deals twice the normal damage to any targets effected by a supernatural effect. You do not add your Intelligence modifier to damage dealt in this way. You cannot attempt to use this talent if you have no stamina charges remaining. When you select this talent, it applies to all the associated revelations to which you have access and you have at least 6 ranks invested.
  • Chain Blast
    • Prerequisite: Kinetic Strafe
    • You can make multiple blasts in a round. You must spend a stamina charge for each blast, and you can never fire more blasts than you could make attacks in that round- in other words, a character with +3 BAB can only fire one blast regardless of this talent, whereas a character with +6/+1 can fire two blasts- one at their highest BAB, and the second with a -5 penalty. Unlike making a blast normally, a chain blast cannot be performed if you have no stamina charges remaining.
      Kinetic Defender Talent Tree
  • Kinetic Resistance
    • Prerequisite: 6 ranks in one of the following revelations- Pyrokinesis, Cryokinesis, Electrokinesis, Phonokinesis
    • You gain energy resistance depending on the revelation chosen. Pyrokinesis grants fire resistance, Cryokinesis grants cold resistance, Electrokinesis grants electricity resistance, and phonokinesis grants sonic resistance. You gain resistance equal to half the ranks in that revelation (maximum 10). You can select this talent multiple times. Each time you do, select a new revelation. The energy resistance granted by this talent stacks with energy resistance provided from other sources.
  • Kinetic Immunity
    • Prerequisite: Kinetic Resistance, 12 ranks in the associated revelation
    • You gain immunity to the energy type specified by your Kinetic Resistance. You can select this talent multiple times. Each time you do, select a new revelation.
      Supernatural Physis Talent Tree
  • Self Healer- Gain a fast healing score.
  • Poison Resistance- Gain a resistance to poisons.
  • Disease Resistance- Gain a resistance to diseases.
  • Poison Immunity- Cannot be effected by poisons.
  • Disease Immunity- Cannot be effected by diseases.
    Healing Hands Talent Tree
  • Improved Healing- Recover more HP with your Healing Touch.
  • Spur Healing- Those helped by your Healing Touch gain fast healing.
  • Healing Mastery- You can take 20 on Healing Touch checks.
    Supernatural Toughness Talent Tree
  • Increased Recovery- You recover nonlethal damage at an even more accelerated rate.
  • Damage Conversion- There is a chance you will convert lethal damage taken into a sum of nonlethal damage.
  • Supernatural Threshold- Your MASS increases dramatically.
  • Regeneration- You gain the regeneration ability.
  • Lethal Damage Immunity- You cannot be killed by normal means.
    Detection Talent Tree
  • Auto-Detection- You automatically perceive supernatural phenomenon.
  • Increased Range- Your supernatural senses extend much farther than usual.
  • Universal Senses- You can use your supernatural senses as mundane senses, and vice versa.
  • True Sight- You cannot be deceived by illusions and glamers.
    Probability Hacker Talent Tree
  • Devil’s Luck- You can reroll bad rolls.
  • Amazing Save- You always get a free reroll on the selected save.
  • Borrow Luck- You can use another’s roll result towards your next roll.
  • Causality Barrier- You add your Charisma modifier to all saves.
  • Synchronicity- You are extremely lucky.
    Channeler Talent Tree
  • Improved Channel- You can also channel a pact-being’s special abilities and mental scores.
  • Extra Pact- You can make an extra pact.
  • Partial Channel- You can choose to always have one aspect of a pact-being channeled.
  • Pact Revelation- You can use your pact-beings revelations as your own.
    Paranoia Seer Talent Tree
  • Force Vision- You can command visions with your Prescience.
  • Offensive Prescience- You apply your Prescience to battle.
  • Defensive Prescience- You apply your Prescience to battle.
  • Danger Sense- You can detect traps and other perils.
    Astral Traveler Talent Tree
  • Extend Projection- You can remain projected much longer than normal.
  • Greater Astral Form- While projected, you can do things like a regular ghost.
  • Powerful Soul- While projected, you gain a +2 bonus to all rolls, checks, and saves.
    Telepathic Maven Talent Tree
  • Suggestion- You can try and make others do as you wish.
  • Mass Suggestion- You can try and make many others do as you wish.
  • Memory Theft- You can telepathically steal information from a target.
  • Mind Nausea- You sicken those that attempt to read your mind.
    Mindbender Talent Tree
  • Somnal Nudge- You can hypnotize people with mental commands.
  • Neuron Heat- You can flood a mind with stimulation and weary them.
  • Aversion- You drive away a specific being with your mental presence.
  • Mindblast- Fire a cone of stunning mental energy.
    Spectral Foe Talent Tree
  • Imbue Tap- You can create bullets and ammo that harm ghosts.
  • Imbue Requiem- You can create bullets and ammo that banish spirits.
  • Dematerialize- You can force a manifested ghost to become ethereal with a Ghost Temper check.
  • Force Material- You can force a ghost to become temporarily material.
    Pulsewalker Talent Tree
  • Bloodtelling- You can decipher knowledge about a person from their blood.
  • Purify Blood- You can remove diseases and poisons.
  • Precise Stenosis- You can sharply stop blood flow to key areas of the body.
    Herbalist Savant Talent Tree
  • Cultivate Magical Herbs- You can grow herbs that can be used to help with supernatural effects.
  • Cultivate Sacred Crop- You can grow fruits and vegetables that contain powerful spiritual effects.
    Holy Word Talent Tree
  • Cleansing Fire- You can force a spirit to depart or be incinerated in holy fire.
  • Fire of Sinai- You can punish a wicked foe with divine energy.
    Agewalker Talent Tree
  • True To Your Time- You gain a defense bonus against Chronokinesis effects.
  • Aging Immunity- You cannot be supernaturally aged.
  • Extended Lifespan- You live twice as long as a normal human.
  • Wisdom Without Weakness- You do not gain aging penalties.
  • Ageless- You do not die naturally from old age.
    Mind Spy Talent Tree
  • Scrambled Intentions- You can make a Bluff check to hide allegiance.
  • Slippery Mind- You gain a chance to reroll Will saves against mind-affecting abilities.
  • Mindmask- You can project a second set of false surface thoughts.
  • Blank Mind- You are immune to mind-affecting effects.
    Nature Spirit Talent Tree
  • Plant Growth- You can cause plants to grow where none were before.
  • Vinelash- You can make a blast-like attack with nearby plants.
  • Green Arm- You can use nearby plants to grapple and defend.
    Whitesalt Adept Talent Tree
  • Resist Darkness- You gain a resistance to saves against Eldritch Power and magical effects.
  • Spell Resistance- You gain a Spell Resistance score.
  • Greater Spell Resistance- Your Spell Resistance increases.
  • Invulnerable Soul- You gain a permanent globe of invulnerability effect.

Secret Talent Tree

Rise: Cogito photoneater
